Villagers attack police station

Raipur, July 9: Villagers went on rampage and attacked the Urla police station in Raipur's industrial area Ajhauli to protest against the arrest of a youth, Sahara Samay sources said.

Three policemen, including a Sub inspector were injured in the clash. A case has been registered against the villagers for vandalism but no arrests have been made so far.

Villagers pelted stones at the police station after one Keval Tandon of the Ajhauli village was arrested after he had a heated argument with a policeman.

The inspector brought the youth to the police station where he was brutally beaten up.

Irate over the incident, villagers attacked the Urla police station. The angry mob was later disbursed by the police.

Meanwhile, inspector M. S. Thakur, who was injured in the clash, has claimed that he was innocent. He alleged that the BJP youth wing leader led the villagers and attacked the police station and pressurised the policemen to release Tandon.

The cops also claimed that the BJP leader did not allow them to take the accused to the court for the legal procedure. They alleged that the police station was gheraod and the road was blocked to exert pressure on the police.

Meanwhile, the BJP has demanded suspension of the TI.
