Diamond smuggler held in Chattisgarh

Raipur: Raipur Crime Branch arrested one person on charges of diamond smuggling here on Thursday.

Mohammad Aslam was arrested by Raipur Crime Branch officials for allegedly smuggling diamonds worth Rs 10 lakh.

Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch offcials arrested the man and seized about 915 diamonds from his possession.

The officials are interrogating the accused. Further details in the case are awaited.
Raipur district's large Mainpur forest areas and Devbhog, bordering Orissa state, are confirmed diamond deposit areas. However, formal excavation has yet not started.
