The start was slow but the inertia was explosive as is evident from the history of Government College of Science, Raipur, which was founded in the year 1948. The barracks near the Old Museum and the Government High School were the stepping-stones from where the journey of Higher Education in Science in Central India was started. Late Prof. Umadas Mukherji was the Founder Principal who was given the responsibility to start the College of Science from the minimum of every thing.
